Here we are once again to publish yet another excellent short story written by a contemporary Brazilian author. This time, we have the pleasure of featuring the work of Luisa Geisler, an author from Rio Grande do Sul who has received the SESC Literary Award twice, made it to the shortlist of the Jabuti Award, and was highlighted by Granta as one of The Best of Brazilian Young Novelists in 2012.

We've selected "Happy Birthday" because it allows us to take a look into family dynamics through the eyes of a young woman, while much is left unsaid.
